Volkswagen’s controversial ’singing dog’ commercial is being pulled from British TV screens today after hundreds of complaints from viewers suspecting animal abuse.
The 30-second advert features a Jack Russell sitting in the passenger seat of a VW Polo “singing” the Spencer Davis Group classic I’m A Man, but trembling and cowering when he’s outside the car.
But Gayskeleton can reveal that although the dog at the centre of the storm, a six-year-old called Bear, is a natural shiverer, his “stunt double” Cody stood on a special motorised plate to make it look as if he was trembling.
The advert, which was filmed in California and first went out on British TV last month, has become one of VW’s most popular commercials ever and is a huge success on the internet with more than 500,000 hits on YouTube.
So is it Pooch Abuse or a silly ad pandering to your weakness for cute CGI-ed dogs that sing and have their confidence level predicated by the type of car they drive ?
If you buy a car from a dog-You are an idiot.
Also, the dog is singing “I’m a man!”
